We lost one of our friends....

Today we lost a friend, colleague, mentor, paramedic Jarek Kobuszewski. "Kubus." It is difficult for us to write even a few words about Jarek in the face of the immensity of the tragedy that affected his loved ones, but also all of us. Jarek spent a large part of his life with us, he was a partner and brother to us. He passed away tragically in his prime. Jarek devoted his entire professional life to rescue. He witnessed and participated in the birth of the National Emergency Medical Service system. Actually, from our perspective, he had always been in it, since 1986.

Jarek is not only an excellent and experienced rescuer. His passion for motorcycles, fishing, antique artifacts, his passion for prospecting, his culinary talent, his broad world view and gentle disposition have won him friends not only in the professional community, but also among patients. He always found time to admire old farm machinery or motorcycles preserved in barns. Despite his gentleness, he never condoned injustice or harm. He was active and advisory as a trade unionist for many years, took part in negotiations with the Minister of Health, and was a signatory to agreements. He was firmly involved in environmental protests, which earned him the respect not only of the rescue workers, but also of employers.

Written into his character, the fight against injustice and harm pushed him towards those affected by the war in Ukraine. He organized and coordinated the evacuation of dozens of patients from war-torn areas. He did not ask when he would return home and what he would get out of it. This multitude of tasks he took on often turned into joyful improvisation. We recall with fondness situations when he simultaneously scheduled duty at three locations. We got used to his calls asking us to change him earlier, because he was still rushing somewhere to help. Such was Jarek. A man of flesh and blood, a great companion on duty and at play. This is how we loved and will remember him. Rest in peace Kubuś in eternal duty!
