There will be no additional 6.5 billion for health

On January 26, the Sejm voted on Senate amendments to the 2023 budget bill, as senators submitted as many as 77 amendments to the draft state budget. - Once again, we are dealing with a budget that does not match the needs, as confirmed by expert opinions. We are seeing increases in almost every budget item, yet we have gigantic inflation, fuel and medicines have become more expensive. The costs of hospitals, primary care and AOS have increased significantly. I feel that health care has not become a state priority at all," noted Senator Prof. Alicja Chybicka. Although health spending planned for 2023 is higher than it was in 2022 by 26 billion zlotys and by almost 40 million than in 2021, the changes proposed by the government mean less money for a longer list of tasks. The amendments to the Law on the Medical and Dental Profession included the list of tasks financed directly by the National Health Fund, including emergency medical services, highly specialized services, and treatment of people living with HIV. Until now, outlays for these purposes were covered by the state budget.

The senators proposed allocating 6.5 billion zlotys more to the National Health Fund to compensate the fund for the discontinuation of state funding directly from the state budget for some health care tasks. They also proposed allocating an additional 2 billion zlotys for the treatment of childhood cancer, 700 million zlotys for child psychiatry and 500 million zlotys for the in vitro infertility treatment program. Unfortunately, Law and Justice deputies rejected all of the Senate's amendments to the 2023 budget, including the one to increase money in the National Health Fund by PLN 6.5 billion.
