The National Health Fund pays for hospital stays from the first day. Previously, up to the third day of hospitalization, billed by a selected homogeneous group of patients (HGP), the hospital, received half the rate for hospitalization. The full rate was paid from the third day of hospitalization. The National Health Fund has announced that it will pay more for a patient's hospitalization from February 2023. The idea is to gradually reach the full rate per day of hospitalization, starting from the first day of hospitalization. The estimated cost of such a change is an additional PLN 200 million, which will go to hospitals. After the changes, for the admission and discharge of a patient from the hospital on the same day, the NHF will pay about 50 percent of the full rate for hospitalization. On the first day - 67 percent, on the second day - 83 percent, and on the third day of hospitalization - 100 percent. The fund hopes that with the increase in rates for the first days of hospitalization, patients will receive professional care faster. Some of them will be discharged from the hospital more quickly, because the hospital will not hold patients for more than three days to receive the funds due. As a result, hospitals will be able to admit more patients.
